Link Building With Comment Luv

You may have heard of a Plugin for WordPress called CommentLuv.  It’s a plugin designed to allow people to comment on your blog and leave a link back to their blog.  So as a blog owner, you are sharing the love to users who comment on your blog posts by giving them a link back to theirs.

You will find a lot of different information online about CommentLuv, from people praising it’s existence, to others who say they’ve stopped using it for various reasons.  Blog comments have and will always be magnets for spam, and when you use something like CommentLuv, you entice people to post who may not have anything constructive to say, they’re in it for the link.   I still believe its a nice gesture, everyone still has the opportunity to moderate their comments, the same tools exist for detecting spammy comments, so if it’s too much work to moderate.

How it works

When you find a WordPress blog with CommentLuv enabled, when you post a comment you are asked to input your website url.  When you begin typing, the plugin will fetch the first of a few blogs, the title will be the anchor text and you now have a link to your blog.  This now provides you with a nice link back to your blog, and links are good, we want more in the search index.  It is only going to show you about 2 of your recent blog posts.

If you would like to be able to select from upto 10 of your blog titles rather than the first two, you must register for an account at www.commentluv.com (it’s free, just register your blog).  By doing so, you will be able to select from a larger list of posts not just the first two.

How to find Comment Luv enabled blogs

Google can help you with this, though it’s not an exact science, simply perform the following:

   “title=”CommentLuv Enabled”” KEYPHRASE

Simply replace KEYPHRASE for blogs you are interested in finding and commenting on within your niche.

nofollow Commentluv Blogs

Not every CommentLuv blog will get you link juice.  “nofollow”  means that a search engine will not follow the links on that particular page and will also not allow PR to flow out of it.  Some blogs may have it set to

  ‘nofollow‘.   There is a handy firefox plugin called NoDoFollow when enabled it color codes all your links, (using two different colors) to identity dofollow and nofollow links.  So when trying to find blogs to comment on, this is a helpful tool if you’re trying to get some inbound links to raise your page rank.

Whether you find ones that pass link juice or they have nofollow on them, they also serve another purpose and that’s to get traffic.  People see your comments and are interested in that related topic, and may be interested in hearing more from you based on your comment.  They can now click through to your blog and read more.  So there are two valuable pieces to using CommentLuv, if you can get both, that’s great, but don’t discredit nofollow links, they’re still links and people still click them.

I’ve started using it, and yes I am going with the intention of getting links back, but I am also providing valuable comments.  I don’t comment on everything, I only comment when I have something further to add to the already existing post and conversation.  Be sincere and honest and this is exactly what CommentLuv was designed to solicit.
